2016 Special Event Weekend & Special Guest Performers -

Every weekend is special at the Maryland Renaissance Festival, but on select weekends during our season we add a special theme to the dates for additional merriment.  Details on the special events will be updated throughout the year.

August 27th & 28th: Children's Weekend
Kids 15 and under, with an accompanying adult ticket purchased, are admitted free.

September 3rd, 4th & 5th:
     Saturday, September 3rd: Singles Day!
We host a party for singles 18+ to meet and mingle!
Join us at the White Hart Tavern from 1pm - 5pm to
play a few fun and low key introduction games, and also take

part in the famous Number Game! Each single is given a number
badge to wear.  If you spy someone interesting and would like
to meet them, simply write a note addressed to their number.
Our Party Hosts will pin that note to our Message Board. Check
the message board throughout the afternoon - perhaps a

message was sent to you!

We invite couples to renew their commitment vows to each other in a short, special ceremony. Time: 1:30pm at the Globe Theatre.
No reservations needed.  Couples may simply arrive at the Globe at 1:30pm and take a seat (seating limited). During the ceremony there will be a few moments when couples can quietly recite their own personal vows to each other. To add to the celebration, dress in your finest Renaissance attire. (However, costumes are optional)

Special guests:

North Sea Gas
Over thirty-five years and stronger than ever!! North Sea Gas is one of Scotland's most popular folk bands with great vocals and tremendous three part harmonies. Guitars, Mandolin, Fiddle, Bouzouki, Harmonica, Whistles, Bodhrans, Banjo and good humour are all part of the entertainment. They have received Gold and Silver Disc awards from the Scottish Music Industry Association and regularly have sold out shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe!

Barleyjuice Trio
Barleyjuice is best-known for their celtic-rock energy and beloved orginals, coercing fans to sing, shout, and dance. The Barelyjuice Trio transforms that energy into a solid, more intimate version of the full group sans bass and drums. Featuring Kyf Brewer (vocals, accordion, harmonica), Keith Swanson (vocals, mandolin, bouzouki, guitar, pipes), and Alice O'Quirke (fiddle, vocals). The setlist is the same, the vocals and solos shine brightly on their own, and the energy is unexpected, leaving the most avid 'Juice fan both satisfied and astonished.
Barleyjuice Trio's festival performance is sponsored in part by Holiday Inn Express & Suites Columbia East/Elkridge. Please visit our Local Accommodations page for more information.

Also enjoy: Chesapeake Caledonian Pipes & Drums, performing at the Joust arena at 10:30am & 12pm each day.

And on Sunday, September 11th at 5pm at the Blackfriars Theatre, we welcome the US Naval Academy Pipes & Drums.

September 24th & 25th:Pirate Weekend!
Argghh - dress in your pirate best to add to the spirit of the day. Stuffed parrots on shoulder, optional.

October 1st & 2nd: Shakespeare Celebration.
2016 commemorates the 400th anniversary of the bard's death.  Help us celebrate the legacy of the greatest playwright of the English language
Enjoy a one hour production of As You Like It, presented by the Festival's Acting Company, each day at 12:30pm at the Globe Theatre.   At 3:30pm on Gatehouse Stage enjoy Shakespeare's Women, a compilation of scenes and monologues featuring the Bard's memorable female characters.

Got parodies? Yes we do - Shakespeare's Skum presents their wacky versions of some of the bard's greatest plays: 2pm- Antony and Cleopatra; 3pm-Henry the 'V'; 4pm- the Skum classic, Macbeth in 20 Minutes or Less.

And in honor of the 400th anniversary, we present STREETspeare, where all 37 of his plays will be represented in  30 scenes, monologues or songs throughout the village.  Pick up your STREETspeare card and location sheet at Customer Service on arrival.

The play is the thing!  Enjoy!
