2014 Special Event Weekend & Special Guest Performers
Of course EVERY day is special at the Maryland Renaissance Festival! However, we have added a few special themes for certain weekends to add to the fun. Check back early this summer for a detailed list on the events and special guest performers.
PLEASE NOTE: Listed below are selected highlights. The Festival is open, running, and a jolly good time for all nine weekends between August 23rd and October 19th!
August 23rd & 24th: Children's Weekend. All kids 11 and under will be admitted FREE!
Special guest for Kid's weekend : Pumpkin Theatre of Baltimore will perform their show, THREE LITTLE TALES. Five performers tell the stories of The Three Little Pigs, Goldie Locks and the Three Bears, and the Three Billy Goats Gruff. This show stresses how our choices affect other people and the consequences they have. Filled with dancing, music, and audience participation this show promises a fun time for all! 1pm at the Gatehouse stage.
And on Sunday, August 24th only, don't miss Center Ring Circus School!
Celebrate Circus with the Center Ring Circus School! Rolling globe, low wire walking, juggling. This circus artists do it all - and they are between the ages of 10 and 16! Come see them in action and then try some of the tricks yourself. These kids are not only performers, but they are teachers. They will have you working skills you never believed you could do. It is circus fun for everyone! Find them on Sunday, August 24th from 10am - 2pm near Customer Service.
Monday, September 1st: Seniors Day. On Labor Day Monday all seniors 62+ will be admitted FREE.
September 6th & 7th: Pirate Weekend.
Ahoy, Matey! Tis pirate weekend. Enjoy the music of The Pyrates Royale (pictured below), The Rambling Sailors, Scales & Crosstones, The Surly Mermaids and more. We encourage all to dress in their pirate best!
Saturday, September 13th: An ASL interpretation day. Selected shows will be ASL interpeted by SHARAVA interpreting service. The listing of the shows interpreted will be available in the "entertainment schedule" of this website the week prior to the 13th.
September 20th & 21st: Scottish Celebration

Special Guest on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST ONLY: The United States Naval Academy Pipes and Drums! The USNA Pipes and Drums is an approved Brigade Support Activity at the United States Naval Academy and, as such, is the only active duty pipe band in the Department of the Navy. It is one of only two active duty pipe bands in the United States Armed Forces, the other being the Pipes and Drum of the Corps of Cadets (West Point). The ensemble, consisting of bagpipers, highland drummers and highland dancers, is comprised by current midshipmen. The band can be seen in a variety of performances throughout the year in Formal Parades, formations, Celtic and Renaissance Festivals, and on the concert stage.The USNA Pipes and Drums would like to express its appreciation to the USNA Class of 1961 and thank them for their continued support.They will be performing for ONE performance only on Sunday, September 21st - 10:30am at the BLACKFRAIRS Theatre. Don't miss them!
October 4th & 5th: Romance Weekend!
We celebrate courtly love, romance and fun during this weekend. Our special music guest is Welsh singer DEBORAH ROSE, who will enchant all romantics with her lovely voice and specially selected Celtic ballads. Deborah's voice was described by folk legend Judy Collins as "one of the finest I've heard." Deborah will sing at the renewal of vows ceremony on October 4th, and will also have two solo sets each day of the Romance weekend. Don't miss her!
On Saturday, October 4th we will have a RENEWAL OF VOWS ceremony open to all couples who would like to renew their commitment vows of love.
This short ceremony will take place at 2:30pm AT THE MARKET STAGE on October 4th. The ceremony will include music by our special guest, Welsh singer Deborah Rose, poetry, and a group renewal of commitment vows, as well as a few moments for couples to exchange their private vows and thoughts. There is no charge for this event. Seating at the Market Stage is first-come, first served for couples.
On Sunday, October 5th, we will host a SINGLES PARTY for those singles 18 and older looking for their knight in shining armor or fair maiden. (Or perhaps, if you were here on the 4th and changed your mind.) Join fellow singles at the Dragon Inn from 2pm - 6pm for a low key event to mix, mingle, play some ice-breaker games, listen to some music and have some fun!

October 18th & 19th: Jousting Competition
While jousting takes place on every day of the Festival, on this special weekend we have knights across the country join our Free Lancers jousting company in a special competition to determine who is the greatest knight in the land!
